Grown-Up Getaway Camp Brings the Joy of Summer Camp Back to Life

For one unforgettable weekend, adults traded overflowing inboxes and daily to-do lists for campfires, laughter, and outdoor adventure at Sierra Nevada Journeys’ Grown-Up Getaway Camp.

Held at our Outdoor Education Camp in the beautiful Sierra Nevada mountains, the annual fundraising event invited guests to reconnect with their inner child while supporting a meaningful cause. The weekend blended the nostalgia of classic summer camp with elevated experiences designed just for adults.

Campers spent their days soaring through the trees on the zip line, creating art, hiking forest trails, cooling off at the pool, and embracing friendly competition during games like slip n’ slide kickball and gaga ball. Evenings came alive with live music around the campfire, happy hours with new friends, and unforgettable moments under the stars. Special activities included a Paint n’ Sip with Lost Sierra artist Liz Swindell, morning yoga, live performances by local band Nightbrain, and a poolside party featuring DJ Braidz.

“What makes Grown-Up Getaway Camp so special is the opportunity to disconnect from everyday life, reconnect with nature, and build genuine connections with others,” said Sean Hill, CEO of Sierra Nevada Journeys. “Every laugh, every adventure, and every memory made during the weekend also helps create life-changing outdoor learning experiences for young people.”

As a nonprofit organization, Sierra Nevada Journeys relies on community support to provide hands-on outdoor science education and camp experiences that inspire curiosity, confidence, and environmental stewardship. Proceeds from Grown-Up Getaway Camp help fund the Student Scholarship Fund, ensuring more children can experience the transformative power of learning in nature, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Sierra Nevada Journeys extends its gratitude to the sponsors whose generosity helped make the weekend possible, including Truckee Meadows Community College, Plumas Bank, US Foods, Reno Type, Q4 Accounting, Lewis Brisbois, Lost Sierra Wine Co., In Plain Sight, and Parlay 6 Brewing Company.

Whether guests came to relive their favorite camp memories or create entirely new ones, they left with full hearts, lasting friendships, and the knowledge that their weekend getaway helped open the outdoors to the next generation.
