Deanne Wood

Outdoor Program Instructor

I’m DeAnne, and an Outdoor Program Instructor. As a kid my family camped a lot. I loved tubing down the river, riding my bike everywhere with my friends, campfire cooking and climbing trees. I always loved the water and was a competitive swimmer into college. I was lucky to have had a treehouse in my backyard in Connecticut where I spent most summer days. Being outside was a big part of my life and I was happiest there. I rediscovered my love of the outdoors when I moved to Los Angeles as an adult and started taking trips to many of the national parks. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts in performing arts and was then teaching/directing kids Kindergarten through fifth grade in full musical productions. I wondered how I could incorporate my teaching skills into some sort of outside world and found outdoor education programs. I was an instructor for one year until COVID-19 shut us down and I shifted into more outdoor adventure work which included working on a dude ranch in Colorado; at a snow tubing hill; and then the coolest job ever as a kayak tour guide in Antelope Canyon on Lake Powell. Today, I’m excited to be back in the education sector and part of your adventure.
