A first generation Nevadan, Lourdes was the first person in her family to obtain a collegiate degree and graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno. Lourdes first became enamored with teaching when she saw what music and English education had worked in her life during high school, becoming inspired by her English teacher and music experiences. During her time at University of Nevada, Reno, Lourdes studied and further fed her love for music and English, while emphasizing in secondary education.
Lourdes has nearly ten years of experience working with youth and their families in the Reno/Sparks area. She first began working with youth in after-school programs, teaching assistanships and substituting. Over the summer, Lourdes directs and organizes the Western Area 4-H Camp in Lake Tahoe, where her love for the outdoors and education is further nurtured. Lourdes has a passion for working with underprivileged populations, and believes that a well-rounded education is for everyone. Lourdes is also a strong believer in youth/adult partnerships and uses this philosophy to approach teaching.
Lourdes first started with Sierra Nevada Journeys, January of 2016 as a Pack Intern. When given the opportunity to continue working with the education programs that Sierra Nevada Journeys offers, Lourdes was elated.
When she's not teaching, Lourdes enjoys music making, kickboxing, and blog writing. Lourdes is a member of the Tintabulations Handbell Ensemble, where she has been ringing for 10 years.
