Mackenzie Kohler

Part-Time Field Educator

Mackenzie is originally from Roseville, Calif. and moved to Reno, Nev. to attend the University of Nevada, Reno where she’s earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Ecohydrology — the study of the interactions between water and ecosystems. Most recently, Mackenzie has been accepted to the University’s Masters in Education program for Fall 2019 where she’ll focus on Secondary Education.

Growing up, she was always on the water at nearby lakes and spent a majority of her youth playing sports. An injury during her senior year, benched Mackenzie from playing basketball for the season. This turn of events, along with taking an advanced placement environmental science class, led Mackenzie to find solace in the outdoors.

Since then, Mackenzie spends as much as possible time in nature, which led her to Sierra Nevada Journeys. In 2017, she was an intern and summer camp counselor with Sierra Nevada Journeys. Mackenzie is now a Part-Time Field Educator and her love of the outdoors and working with children are the best parts of her role as outdoor educator. The best part about working at Sierra Nevada Journeys, are the field trips and when students say when they grow up that they want her job.
