McKenzie Mendoza

Development Coordinator

McKenzie was born and raised in Portland, OR and grew up exploring the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Through her time spent camping, hiking, and traveling with her family, she developed a great love for the outdoors and an even deeper appreciation for environmental stewardship.

After graduating from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in Geography and a minor in Nonprofit Administration, McKenzie worked as a Development Assistant and Grant Writer for Schoolhouse Supplies and Store to Door. Here she learned an abundance of new skills that enabled her to further pursue her passion of working with nonprofits. After a few years working in Portland, she was eager to embark upon a new adventure, and so she relocated to Reno, NV. Before joining the team at Sierra Nevada Journeys, she worked at CARE Chest of Sierra Nevada. At CARE Chest, McKenzie was able to expand their Wellness Education Program and coordinate an abundance of successful fundraising events.

Outside of the office, McKenzie enjoys being a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Reno Midtown and serves as their Program and Co-Membership Chair. Her favorite hobbies include traveling internationally, hiking, and checking National Parks off of her bucket list. She loves getting to know her new home state of Nevada and takes every opportunity to get outdoors and explore.
