Joan is an experienced communicator, community builder, fundraiser and liaison through her various positions in the nonprofit, technology, newspaper and academic industries. Prior to working at Sierra Nevada Journeys, she was responsible for sponsorships as the Community Board Liaison at Renown Health.
She has worked as Director of Communications for the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission, as Project Manager for International Game Technology, as Proposal Manager and Contracts Manager for Tyco International, as Landscape Coordinator for Moana Nursery, as Staff Reporter for the Amherst New-Era Progress newspaper and as Editor for the Randolph-Macon Woman’s College Alumnae magazine.
She spearheaded, created and edited the Gospel Mission’s 50th anniversary book Miracles in Sin City II to spotlight the addiction recovery program. The book and 50th anniversary campaign won a Public Relations Society of America “Silver Spike 2014 Award of Excellence.”
To increase brand recognition in the community and to increase donations to meet their annual operating expenses goal, Joan developed a marketing campaign for the Good Shepherd’s closet. She was also a content provider for The Nevada Assistive Technology Resource Center’s Enabled Nevada website.
Joan received her B.A. in English/Creative Writing from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Virginia and her M.A. in Interactive Journalism from the University of Nevada, Reno.
An avid gardener, she also enjoys creating silk and natural flower arrangements to capture and enjoy the beauty of the garden all year long..
