David Gardner

Camp Executive Director

David joined Sierra Nevada Journeys in February, 2019, as Grizzly Creek Ranch Executive Director. He was formerly the Adult and Family Programs Manager at North Cascades Institute in Concrete, Washington. Prior to that role, he served more than 10 years at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center as Director of Environmental Education, located outside Charleston, South Carolina on Seabrook Island. Each year, David led 8,000 students through the “Barrier Island Environmental Education Program.” He has served as a Board Member with Seabrook Island Birders — a community group that educates and protects a variety of birds that inhabit Seabrook Island.

David earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Ecology from the University of Aberdeen of the United Kingdom. His journey to Portola, California brings a diverse background of ecology, from living at the coastal plains of the east coast to the higher altitudes of the mountainous region of the state of Washington. David, his wife and two daughters are excited about getting to know the Plumas County community. David grew up in England and has lived many years in South Carolina; you’ll enjoy his conversation not only for his mixed English and southern accent, but also his knowledge of nature. Ready to meet and learn more about the Sierra region, David is available to meet for a cup coffee or take you on a tour of Grizzly Creek Ranch. Call 530-832-1085.
