Walking Our Watershed (4 session program)

Water is becoming a very serious issue in our world! Students will learn what a watershed is and how it is affected by the water cycle. Students will learn why protecting our watershed is important and brainstorm ways they can protect theirs.

Our Amazing Earth (4 session program)

Our planet is dynamic and ever-changing! This is a unit that stretches across the Earth Science standards for Nevada. It begins with a discovery lesson on the Solar System; just how big is it? It then talks about weather and the processes that cause our climate. Geology is our next stop; students explore different types of rock and begin to make classifications. Finally, the unit ends with the students playing the role of a gold miner in Nevada. Did you know Nevada is the 3rd leading area in the world for mining gold behind only South Africa and Australia? They will set up a work plan, mine a piece of property (cookie), and discover the impact on our environment.

(NEW! ) Energy…Catch the buzz… (4 session program)

Energy is always a hot topic in the news. It is time for our students to begin to make their own conclusions. We begin by exploring what energy really is and where it comes from. Then we begin to look at types of energies that are available to us that may be located in our back yard. This unit helps student not only learn about renewable energy, but have the opportunity to begin to see how they can change their own environment. This series is all about creating “green collar workers”!
