The Experiential Classroom!
Consistent with all of Sierra Nevada Journeys educational programs, our school and field-based programs are dedicated to empowering youth through engaging science and outdoor education while developing problem solving and critical thinking skills. Our K-12 standards-based educational programs are designed to build relationships with and between students, teachers and the community to inspire students in the areas of science and leadership.
We take a Whole Schools approach when working with students. We believe that it’s not just about providing one amazing opportunity or experience, but rather having multiple contact points with each student! School and Field-based programs are designed to match specific science standards in multiple grades progressivly building on skills that tie into both our residential programming and professional development offerings.
School and field-based programs are unique in the exciting, life-changing experiences we provide to youth. Whether we bring nature to your classroom or you bring your class out to play outside, you won’t be disappointed! Programs include in-school, afterschool, and day field trips.

- Our Afterschool Programs enable students to learn amazing things about science, leadership, and the natural world right at their own school. This is perfect for students who would like to explore fun hands-on science experiences!
- In-School Programs help teachers teach exciting science enrichment. Having trouble getting your students excited about science? Let us help! We can create a positive learning environment around science in your classroom. Your students will be having fun and learning in no time at all!
- Let your students really get out there with our Field-based Programs. Whether it’s is a Galena Creek hike or a trip to the Truckee, bring your class out for the opportunity to truly engage with nature and explore their local ecosystem first hand.
