Volunteer with Sierra Nevada Journeys
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Sierra Nevada Journeys. We rely on volunteer and in-kind support to help us run the organization and our quality programs, as well as to expand and sustain our organization. At this time, there are several general areas of opportunity for our volunteers to assist Sierra Nevada Journeys staff.
In- and After-school Programs
Volunteers in our Outreach Programs will assist Sierra Nevada Journeys staff in preparing for, and facilitating, programs at the assigned locations (setting up materials, instructing and directing activities, assisting and mentoring students) and providing valuable feedback on their experiences. Past experience teaching and/or working with youth may be required. This is an excellent opportunity to inspire and encourage young people and to promote a truly hands-on, student-centered learning atmosphere.
Development & Marketing
To support our development and marketing staff, some responsibilities will include taking part in the planning and execution of fundraisers, brainstorming new marketing and fundraising strategies, and tabling at community events. Creativity, dedication, and the willingness to collaborate are required!
Teacher Workshops and Conferences
Sierra Nevada Journeys offers a diverse menu of professional development opportunities for educators and business organizations. Passionate and engaging workshop facilitators, co-facilitators or guest presenters are always in demand, particularly if you have a background in school improvement initiatives, school culture, interdisciplinary planning, science, environmental science issues, teambuilding, or outdoor education. Creating new lessons for educators is also an area for which volunteers are needed. All of Sierra Nevada Journeys lessons and modules are aligned with Nevada State Content Standards. Your expertise in this area would be invaluable.
In addition, we would appreciate volunteer help on the days of our workshops to help serve lunch, register guests, and assist with set up and break-down of supplies and equipment. One-time volunteer opportunities
We also have a variety of short-term volunteer opportunities for those of you who are juggling a busy schedule. If you would like to be notified about upcoming service learning projects or clean-up days at various locations throughout the community, tables at community events, and many other opportunities, email us to request a monthly volunteer newsletter.
If you are interested in assisting with administrative tasks for the office in general, such as answering phones, filing, data entry, and organizing, we can arrange that as well.
