Welcome to our New Staff!

Sierra Nevada Journeys has been fortunate to have had the amazing help of AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteers through a partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service.  These volunteers devote a year to serve this community as they build the capacity of our educational programs.  They are integral to the continuous growth of the organization [...]

I caught my first fish!

Today was one of the hottest days of the summer, but the breeze was amazing and the pond made the heat seem non-existent.  Students were able to go fishing and kayaking in the pond today.  For many students, it was their first time fishing and, for even more students, their first fish!
On the other hand, [...]

Professional Development “gets their hands dirty” and goes biking!

The alarm goes off at 5:15 in the morning. I am out of bed at 5:30, in the shower a few minutes later, and am trudging towards the kitchen by 5:50.
At 6:00 sharp we gather, hands washed, aprons donned, and eyes half open. The head chef, Mitchell Tufts, greets us with a warm smile and [...]

Summit Camp Update!

Summer is here and the students shining face are smiling. Students this year are staying in teepees, this is an awesome opportunity for students because they get to design and lay their beds in any way they like. The girl’s teepees are arranged in a large circle where they can lay and play cards. The [...]
